As the fall season is coming to an end, tennis wraps up for the unified team; this means that bocce is right around the corner. Unified Bocce is a sport for all. It brings people together and makes wonderful memories. It is one of the three Unified sports that Catoctin currently offers, along with Unified Tennis and Unified Track and Field.
You may be wondering, what even is bocce? Bocce is an Italian sport that bears resemblance to lawn bowling. It has been around for centuries, with the earliest games dating back from 5,200 B.C. to 9,000 B.C. It’s played on a long and narrow space. You play in two teams and each team has a specific color for their balls. One team is to throw a smaller ball underhand onto the court. The goal is to roll the bocce balls closest to the smaller ball. The team with the balls rolled closest to the target are named the winners of the match.
Participating in bocce has many benefits; you get to do hands-on activities which help stimulate the brain and can entertain you. You can make great friends and acquaintances outside of Catoctin. You get to be a part of a great team and can even get a varsity letter. Another big thing is you also are helping be a part of the change and promoting inclusivity whilst having fun with friends. Who would not want to participate with all these benefits?
