Hey y’all! Emily and Lizzie went on the FFA National Convention trip along with 17 other students, 2 Ag. Advisers, and 5 chaperones. Some of the wonderful chaperones that are on the trip with us are part of our Alumni. Catoctin isn’t the only school to be riding the charter bus, we are riding down with Walkersville. On Sunday we left CHS at 8AM and from there we took a long drive to a Buffalo Wild Wings in West Virginia at 11:36AM. Then we left there and drove out to New River Gorge National Park and Preserve and there we saw the New River Gorge Bridge. After that we left and drove into Kentucky. After gaining a bunch of ground by bus, we went to Texas Roadhouse. Once dinner was done we headed over to our hotel.
It’s now Monday morning. We get on the bus and drive off to the horse rescue called KESMARC where we learn all about the different training strategies and how each horse has a different routine; if they were humans because we have different treatment methods for different people. After that we drove to the Kentucky Derby Museum, there we saw the history of the Derby like how it started and how it stayed in the family all these years that they’ve been in business. We also got a tour of the Derby and the Track. After leaving the Track we were on our way to Culvars to eat lunch. Once we finished lunch we started our ride to top golf. We had plenty of fun with each other while we ate and played games of golf. We stopped for the night in Louisville, Kentucky.
In the morning we had 2 more stops before we got to Indianapolis, Indiana. At about 10:30AM we stopped at the Louisville Slugger Museum to take a tour of the factory and learn about the behind the scenes of making a baseball bat. After that we went on our way to Po’s Hampshire farm. This farm is a family owned and operated farm. They run about a 200 head flock of sheep and they also grow crops. The interesting thing about them is they only AI breed their females. After spending a couple hours there we left and we were on route for lunch at Culvers and Indianapolis. After lunch we had about one hour left before we reached our hotel. After settling in we went to dinner. Then, Wednesday morning we got up and had to compete in various competitions. We had to speak, conduct chapter meetings, farm business management, and Ag sales. We placed bronze and silver! After the competition, we spent the rest of the week shopping , attending workshops, meeting new people, and enjoying ourselves. We had an amazing time in Indianapolis!
