The Career and Technology Center (CTC) in Frederick, Maryland provides students the opportunity to participate in one of the biggest student organization/leadership programs in the country, SkillsUSA. SkillsUSA, or Skills for short, not only provides scholarships and other forms of support in terms of college and career readiness, it also allows for students to compete in their respective programs/focus areas to make it to nationals. The 2025 Nationals is taking place in Atlanta, Georgia this year from June 23rd-June 27th. Many professionals in their field make it a point to go to SkillsUSA nationals to scope out the young talent, making this week of competition and camaraderie a huge deal.
But, we are not here to talk about nationals, at least not yet. And that’s because SkillsUSA competitions at the state level are just getting started. Several Catoctin High students competed in theri local and regional competitions and scored in the top 3 of their programs and moved on to the state level! For some, their competition begins on March 17th, like the Television/Multimedia program. But for most, their competition takes place on March 29th before the awards ceremony in Westminster, where the main event happens.
The goal of this article, however, is to celebrate the Catoctin High Students that have made it to the states level and will be competing against students from all corners of Maryland. Those students are: Tanner Shorb (Welding), Savannah Cregger (Basic Health Care), Andrew Cole (Health Knowledge Bowl), Geo Rinker (Advertising Design), TJ Pickett (Plumbing), and Claire Daly (Digital Cinema Production).
These students have all worked very hard to get here and we are all cheering them on here back at the Chronicle! Good luck everybody and represent Frederick with pride!
