Starting the new year off and have no clue what music to listen to? Are you a fan of rock and or alternative metal? Allow me to draw your attention towards the well-known band called Deftones. This band was formed in 1988 consisting of lead singer Chino Moreno, lead guitarist Stephen Carpenter, and drummer Abe Cunningham. Bassist Chi Cheng and keyboardist Frank Delgado accompanied them in 1990-1999. They came up with this band idea when Moreno, Carpenter, and Cunningham were all in highschool. They had started off as a garage band, being just a few teenage guys with a dream.
In 1988, they started to perform. Their music is known to be experimental, with some people referring to them as, ¨The Radiohead of metal.¨ Their debut album was Adrenaline in 1995, and at the time, they were working with Maverick Records. Their second album is one of their most popular, known by many and having reached the top of the charts with ease. This album is Around the Fur which was released in 1997. This album contained some popular songs such as; ¨Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)¨, ¨My Own Summer (Shove It)¨ , and ¨Mascara.¨ These songs from this particular album helped build their popularity. The building success drove them to release their next album titled White Pony in 2000. This album is another one of their most popular, containing some hits such as, ¨Change (In the House of Flies)¨, ¨Passenger¨, and ¨Knfe Party.¨ Some label White Pony as one of their most popular albums to see the spotlight.
Three years later in 2003, Deftones released their album sharing the name of their band — Deftones — which contained some songs such as ¨Minerva,¨ ¨Needles and Pins,¨ and ¨Battle-xe.¨ Fans would have to wait seven years for their next release, Diamond Eyes. This is another celebrated album with some of the bigger hits being ¨You´ve Seen the Butcher,¨ ¨Sextape,¨ and ¨CMND/CTRL¨ These are both great albums containing beautiful songs worth streaming — and screaming! Their seventh studio release was Koi No Yokan in 2012. This album came with even more beautiful songs, such as ¨Gauze,¨ ¨Tempest,¨ ¨Poltergeist,¨ and ¨Rosemary¨. This album was, once again, a strong hit among Deftones fans.
Overall, Deftones is the perfect band to listen to; especially if you enjoy alternative rock or nu metal. In total, they have nine released studio albums, three extended plays, three compilation albums, five demo albums and 22 singles. Counting up all of their songs, they have around 227 available on Spotify. Currently in 2025, they are touring around the United States. ..
