On November 11th, a handful of Catoctin High School juniors and seniors were inducted into the Ross V. Smith chapter of the National Honor Society. The induction ceremony took place at 6:30 pm in the school’s auditorium. There were opening remarks from the society’s advisors, Mrs. Olivia Aungst and Mr. Neil Metzgar, and a statement from the school’s principal, Mrs. Jennifer Clements. She followed up her speech by leading the inductees in the Honor Society’s pledge. As each new inductee’s bio was read, students walked to the stage, signed the National Honor Society book to be officially inducted, received their certificate, as well as a pin that they can wear on their graduation gowns, and read a quote of their choosing into the microphone. The ceremony concluded with a beautifully thought-out speech from honorary inductee and guest speaker, Mr. Brian Brotherton. This month we celebrate the 29 new inductees for their achievements in exceeding expectations and being a pillar of service in their community. Congratulations to the newest members of this school’s chapter of the National Honor Society!
Interested in applying to the National Honor Society yourself? Eligible juniors or seniors will receive a letter near the beginning of year stating that they have the option to apply to the National Honor Society. From there, students will create a resume detailing their leadership and service experiences, their extracurricular activities, awards/honors, and an essay that demonstrates their good character. Shortly after, they can reach out to teachers and mentors in their lives and ask them to evaluate them in the qualities of a National Honor Society member. From there, the applications are reviewed and the results of the decision, acceptance or denial from the society, will be mailed to the applicants respective houses. Acceptance into the National Honor Society can take you one step further in your journey to spread kindness and joy throughout your life, by providing opportunities for you to give your service freely unto others.
